Spotlight on: Curriculum Sequencing
Why is sequencing so important to us here at The Learning Box? The best way to explain would be to use the analogy of a planning a road trip; making sure all of the right stops were in the right order. We see this as an essential to how English is taught and learnt.
Sequencing makes sure children learn things in a logical and connected way, so they can build on what they already know. We are looking to activate their prior knowledge and the skills in their toolkit before weaving in new learning. Imagine trying to run before you can walk – it just wouldn't work! The same goes for learning.
When English skills are taught in a well-thought-out order, it helps children remember and understand better. It's like laying a strong foundation for a house – you want to make sure it's solid before you start adding the walls and roof. So, by carefully planning the order of what children learn in English, we can help them become more confident and skilled in reading, writing, and language.
This sets them up for success not only in English class, but in all their future learning adventures.
