FIND YOUR WORDS

Writing

Years 3, 4, 5 & 6

Find Your Words holiday workshops are the perfect opportunity for your child to immerse themselves in the magic of the written word - exploring genres and experimenting with different text types whilst igniting an enjoyment and passion for all sorts of different writing.

Suitable for all levels and abilities in storytelling, Find Your Words guides your child through their first steps as writers, supported by a multitude of resources, and a process of continuous discussion, reflection and improving.

Our workshops range in days depending on the length of holidays, each one offering bespoke and structured year group appropriate support for primary school children.

Why a writing workshop?

First and foremost, creative writing allows children to get lost in the joys of English without being bogged down by the technicalities of grammar. A secure education in creative writing allows children to naturally apply their grammatical abilities to their writing, but in an environment that prioritises their creativity.

As teachers, we want to equip our children with the skills to navigate life, school and eventually work. Opening the door to the world of creative writing is crucial in this; it builds confidence, reduces inhibitions, develops imagination, clarifies thoughts and unlocks empathy. Combine these attributes with the ability to plan, create structure in thought and organise words and, well, you have an all-round winner!

Our Aims

  • To secure an understanding of which elements of a story are the most important, and how to capitalise on these elements

  • To reinforce core grammatical skills, and how vital these are to maintain a good standard of writing

  • To provide a toolbox of descriptions, literary techniques and genre features that can be taken into other settings

  • To expose different mediums of planning in order to create a secure and clear story structure

  • To give child-specific feedback related to writing criteria, and accessible next steps for parents to take forward
